Bio
"I realized I was an artist using photography as a tool, not a photographer" -- Laurie Simmons
My goal with my work is to show others the world as I see it. So many people seem to not be able to see what is right in front of them. I want to shake up perceptions, show things in a way different from the norm.
Words just don’t always do this, photographs do. Like Big Bird’s attempts to introduce Snuffleupagus to his other friends, I’ve struggled to express my reality to others only to have my words ignored or misunderstood. Once a picture has been seen it can’t be unseen.
I do my thinking while walking and usually have a camera with me. When I view my photos I’m reminded of what I was thinking and feeling at the time they were taken. There are times I get so lost in thought that I have no idea what I had been thinking about until I go through the photographs!
Also, my photographs prove to me that what I saw was real, that other people can see it too; that it wasn’t just something out of my imagination.

Artist Statement
"....if it were an invariable truth that madness is an evil, but in reality, the greatest blessings came by way of madness, indeed of madness that is heaven-sent." Socrates in dialogue with Phaedrus
Sanity is such a fragile, subjective thing. Experiences outside the norm are aggressively denied. There is more than one reality, we all live in different worlds. My life has been different from yours; your life has been different from mine. What gives us the right to judge what is normal? Yes, there is a level of insanity that is dangerous to one’s self and others, however, one who has a different perspective can feel isolated, isolation and judgment lead to depression, leading to more and more abnormal, isolating behaviour. One screams for help, and the commotion pushes others away.
